JMA benefits from Coffee and Cake

Over £170 was raised for the Junior Mission for All at our Coffee Morning and Cake Stall. Congratulations to the team who organised and ran the event and provided a range of yummy cakes. Thanks to all friends, neighbours and church family members who were able to support it.

Child Friendly Church Award

We are pleased to announce that Northcliffe has met the criteria to gain the Child Friendly Church Award,

recognising our welcoming approach to children and young people and the value we place in their input into church life.

We currently work with children in our Sunday Club (Junior Church), a youth group for 8-12 year-olds which meets on Monday evenings and a thriving Brownies, Guides and Ranger pack on Tuesdays. The Parents/Carers and Toddler group continue to meet on Thursday mornings and Hall Royd Band with its long association with the church has a number of young people in its group.

Our “Charter for Children” has been accepted at General Church Meeting and we actively seek ways to include the children’s views.

Epiphany Lunch

Huge thanks to Rebecca, Michael and all of their family and friends who made our Epiphany lunch such a success. We had a super time and enjoyed delicious food and had great conversation. We must do it again sometime.

After expenses this raised £90 towards our building improvement funds.

Going Down Memory Lane

Nativity Scene Festival

On 8th December 2018 the church was decorated all round with Nativity Scenes presented or created by different church linked groups.

The Nativity Display was beautiful with groups taking time to set up their scenes. Creativity at its best and faith proclaimed. Here are just some of the many scenes on display.

Celebrate the coming of Christmas

Our Northcliffe Christmas Cards proclaim Jesus the Reason for the Season. Our service for the first Sunday in Advent was led by Caroline Pathak on 2nd December. The first advent candle  – the candle of Hope was lit.

The second Sunday of advent coincided with the lighting of the candle of Peace. Masses of Brownies, Guides and Rangers presented The Nativity in drama, prayer and song on Sunday 9th after an exciting sleep-over. We heard the Christmas story in verse in the form of Granddad’s Christmas Tale. They showed us some of the craft activities they’d done. The church was full of our regular congregation and proud family members seeing their daughters acting as children, shepherds, wise men, the Holy family, angles and stars with a narrator and of course a granddad who linked it all together. Thanks to the Guide Leaders for helping the girls pull off such a successful and delightful service.

On the third Sunday of advent there will be no morning service. Instead we are holding a Candle-lit Family Service on 16th December at 4pm, with carol singing accompanied by Hall Royd Band. This will be followed by drinks of tea, squash or coffee with mince pies or chocolate logs.

The 4th Sunday of Advent is a 10.30 service of 9 lessons and carols led by Janet Smith. There will be no service at Northcliffe on 25th but you are welcome to attend a service Crag Rd Methodist Church at 10am. On 30th December you are welcome to join us here at Northcliffe at 10.30 am for a Communion Service led by Rev’d Phil Drake.

We Will Remember Them

At our Remembrance Service on 11th November we displayed the names of those from our church who had lost their lives during ‘The Great War’. This included those from the former Shipley United Reformed Church and those from Hall Royd Methodist Church. A cascade of Autumn leaves represented falling poppies and our some of our red flowers were displayed in a shell case trench-art vase. Our service was ably led by Barry Empson and of course a two minute silence was observed.
