Glittering Trees, Candle-lit Cafe Church, Foot-Tapping Dance Display

  Congratulations and thanks go

to all who took part in our Christmas Tree Festival. With over 20 trees belonging to the many groups linked to Northcliffe decorating our church, visitors had a real treat. Each tree had its own ‘story’ to tell and reflected the wide variety of activities which regularly take place at Northcliffe.

While our visitors enjoyed refreshments, they were treated to a display by Fiddle ‘n’ Feet of Appalachian and Lancashire Clog dancing with music from their own band of musicians. We send our thanks to them.

Trees from the Conversation group, the Prince’s Trust, Northcliffe Tree with prayer tags, Knit and Natter Group, Hear Hear – (the Talking Telegraph), Headway Bradford,

Thanks to Adele and the team for pulling the event together. The £165 raised will go towards our kitchen improvement project.

Thanks to the band and well done to the children

Our thanks go to Hall Royd Band for leading our music in our Carol Service this morning and then sending us on our way with some cheery Christmas tunes.

Well done to the Junior Church who, with little opportunity to practise due to recent illnesses, did a GREAT job presenting our version of The Jesse Tree which was rather like important people from the Bible in 280 characters. Twitter would have been proud of us!

Thanks go to Sam, Charlie, Emily and Jessica.

Going Down Memory Lane held monthly at The Anchorage

The aim of this event is to bring members of the community together to interact, reminisce and celebrate life together. A way of connecting Christ to the community. One of the examples was to invite Shipley CE children’s choir to sing and interact with the residents and those who came along. People are allowed to think of the memories that still make them smile. Last but not least a Pause for Thought is shared from the Bible for people to take away to reflect further on it. When people are unable to come to Church due to various reasons,

Northcliffe Church has decided to go to them and share the love of Jesus in this manner. You are invited to come along and be part of it.

Busy Knitters

The Knit and Natter Group got busy with these cosy jumpers to send abroad. This is the second batch they have knit for African babies, known as the ‘fish and chip babies’. These are really poor babies, many of whom are born with Aids and that is about all these little souls come into this world with. They are so poor that they are sent home wrapped in newspaper which is why they are called fish and chip babies. The jumpers themselves are very easy to knit and they are knitted in one complete piece. For most knitters they take an afternoon or an evening to complete. They are very important because in Africa, the nights are cold and these babies have no clothes.

The only real stipulation is that they are knitted in bright dark colours rather than the pastel shades we may use for babies, (bright stripes look good and use up only small bits of wool). This is because these little garments may never be washed.

More recently knitters have been recruited to produce a host of angels – some of them seen here –

The  Christmas Angels are knitted to give out to those who need cheering up this Christmas season.

ALL, Together

It’s nearly time for the next ALL, Together service. This Sunday afternoon service is for everyone regardless of age or ability but is a special service for people with learning disabilities, their families and friends. Come along and hear about a young man who left home and ended up in a bad way. Did he dare to go home? Would his father forgive him? Come and find out.

You are welcome to join us as we are Praising, Making and also sharing food which we bring along to share.

The service is on SUNDAY 19th NOVEMBER at 3pm followed by a shared tea at approximately 4.20pm.

Coffee Morning and Bric a Brac Sale

We had a steady stream of people popping in to browse and bag a bargain at our Bric a Brac Sale on Saturday morning 4th November. Toys proved popular along with books and greetings cards.

There was chance to sit, relax and chat over a cuppa with a slice of apple pie and cream in our Community Hall.

Our cake stall proved very profitable – well done Barbara! and thanks to all who contributed.

Some profits went to church funds and also to our kitchen refurbishment project.

As ever, a good team effort. Thank you to all who helped and supported this event.

Guides and Brownies lead us in worship

For this family service, the girls had chosen the theme of RESPECT. Everyone in the congregation was given coloured ribbons which reminded us we should show respect for God, for others, for ourselves and for the world around us.

The BROWNIES acted out a scene to depict how we should always try to get on well with others. The GUIDES enacted a message from the Noah story.

In our time of prayer, we were all given a teaspoon and reminded that in recipes these are abbreviated to tsp. We can now use our teaspoon at home as follows….the t stands for “thanks”, the s for “sorry” and the p for please.

Our thanks go to the girls and their leaders for giving us so much to think about. It was super.

p.s. our Brownie section has been going from strength to strength and we are now ready to take names on a waiting list. The Leaders are obviously doing a great job.

ALL, Together we hear about the Great Feast

This inclusive service celebrated the story Jesus told (ably read by Katie Matthews) of the parable of the man who invited all his rich friends and influential people to his party but found that they all sent their excuses. Instead, the rich man sent his servants out to invite any one they found to come to share in his feast.

Activities involved sticking pictures of food onto plates and hunting for pictures of people ‘hidden’ round the church, then sticking them on our collage around Jesus’ table because He invites everyone to His feast. Some people helped make bunting that spelled out “The Great Feast”.

Others guests wrapped pencils which were party gifts to be given to us all, while some enjoyed puzzles and word searches and a third group discussed how Jesus’ love is for everyone.

We enjoyed celebrating the success that Neil and Benjamin had achieved at the Special Olympics in Sheffield (in Basket Ball and Swimming respectively).

It was good to welcome new friends from Champion House in Calverley and we hope to see them again.

We didn’t forget that many people locally do not have enough for their daily needs and a collection for the North Bradford Foodbank was made.

After all this we enjoyed our own tea party down in the hall.

Join us for our next ALL, Together at 3pm on November 19th.
