We Will Remember Them

At our Remembrance Service on 11th November marking 100 years of the end of World War One, we displayed the names of those men from our church who lost their lives in ‘The Great War’, including both those who were associated with the former Shipley United Reformed Church and those from Hall Royd Methodist Church. It was a poignant reminder of their sacrifice. Some of our flowers were arranged in a shell case trench-art vase. A cascade of autumn leaves represented the falling poppies associated with remembrance and we acknowledged the part played by those of other faiths with their faith symbols alongside our wooden poppy cross.

Our service was ably led by Barry Empson and of course the two minutes silence was observed at 11 o’clock.
