Northcliffe’s History

Northcliffe is a Methodist / United Reformed Church which formed in 2009 when 2 churches on either side of Bradford Road decided to amalgamate, becoming what’s known as an L.E.P. – Local Ecumenical Partnership. People from Shipley United Reformed Church joined with Hall Royd Methodist Church adopting the name of Northcliffe Church after the well-known, nearby park.

Our main church building was constructed in 1937 with money from subscriptions made by people living in nearby housing. The chapel upstairs adapted over time to suit the needs of today’s worshipping congregation. it also gives us the flexibility to hold different events. We often hold concerts, helped by the good acoustics and the presence of our grand piano. We can move seating to set up craft fairs, café style worship, or quiet days.

Two regular groups meet weekly to hold their rehearsals in the chapel – The Bradford Chorale and the Hall Royd Band.

Downstairs, along with the hall, our meeting rooms host a number of community groups. We have also given up one office for the Christians Against Poverty debt counsellor manager for Shipley to use as a base.
